Located on 480 acres of land, The Western Historic
Trails Center commemorates four key westward pioneer
trails that passed near or through present-day
Iowa. These historic trails include: the Mormon
Pioneer Trail, the Lewis and Clark Trail and the
Oregon and California Trails.
This 15,000 square-foot facility, which opened
in October 1997, allows you to learn about the
trails in several creative ways. Explore a variety
of interpretive media ranging from interactive
exhibits and displays to outdoor walking paths
and trails. The hiking trails are lined with interpretive
panels that lead you to the banks of the Missouri
River.
Also prominent in the center is a museum store
that offers theme-related items and a community
room filled with brochures, maps and travel guides.
